What is a technical rider?
A technical rider is the production information a band or artist sends to a venue, promoter or sound company before a performance. It tells the production team what is needed to put the show on safely and efficiently.
What should your technical rider include?
- Artist or band name and a technical contact
- Venue or event details and performance date
- A clear stage plot
- Input / channel list
- Microphone and DI requirements
- Phantom power requirements where relevant
- Monitor wedge or IEM requirements
- Backline, playback, power and changeover notes
Avoid overcomplicating it
For most grassroots, wedding, function and club bands, a concise rider is more useful than a huge touring document. Give the venue enough information to prepare the stage and desk without burying the important details.
